Clarence Gayles – Director of Strategic Engagement Clarence brings 15+ years of campaign, advocacy and organizing experience to the Thomas Group Consulting focusing on influencer engagement and grassroots and grasstops outreach.

Over the past 7 years, Clarence has directed community engagement for:

The Mid, a mixed use development exceeding 1 million square feet in Mid Town
Core Orchards Detroit an 11 acre East Side Detroit U-Pick apple orchard,
The redevelopment of the Arnold Home site in Northwest Detroit into a Department of Health and Human Resources office building,
An international short-term lodging hospitality company.

Clarence has also managed candidates and campaigns at the local, statewide and national levels including the 2015 Proposition 1 road tax proposal, several state legislative races, Barak Obama for President, the Democratic Coordinated Campaign and advocacy organizations such as Planned Parenthood Advocates of Michigan.

He effectively utilizes the most current technology and best practices to run targeted, layered large scale field campaigns. Clarence previously served as Community Engagement and Governmental Affairs Specialist for The Children’s Center of Wayne County, where he implemented

a strategic advocacy program to engage staff, clients, community leaders and policy makers around issues related to children’s mental health services
funding for early childhood education
increased rates for foster care providers.

He was successful in building relationships with over 120 Wayne County schools and building an ongoing relationship with the Governor’s Office and the support of Lieutenant Brian Calley for a package of bills related to Autism services.
